OUR MISSION

Jason Alpha’s International Development Department has the goal of improving the well-being and the living conditions of the world’s most vulnerable people. We partner with the private sector, development agencies and humanitarian organisations to further collaborate with the affected communities in order to develop projects from the pre-evaluation phase to implementation, assessment and post-evaluation.

We specialise in disaster response and reconstruction, shelter solutions in disaster prone areas, vernacular architecture for different climatic conditions, sustainable implementation of energy solutions in rural and urban areas and biomass alternatives.

We bring our deep scientific and technical experience, rigorous analytical proficiency and a pragmatic attitude to provide planning and strategic operational advice, scientific and economical assessment, pre and post-evaluation, technical expertise and assistance.

CURRENT PROJECT

Research and development of a post-disaster shelter in the Philippines that can better withstand the harsh weather conditions anticipated in the area. The Philippines is one of the most exposed countries in the world to natural disasters and an average of twenty tropical storms and typhoons affect the area yearly. Moreover, in the Philippines, people living in shelters usually suffer the consequences of other natural disasters before they have a permanent home.

Pre-evaluation of a proposed shelter design is achieved through Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to analyse its performance under high-speed wind conditions through a comparative study of an existing shelter, which its structural performance has been monitored.

Current development on the project is the construction of shelter models and the examination in laboratory environment (wind-tunnel testing, seismic vibration evaluations and flood tests). After a prototype will be built in a resettlement camp for post-evaluation and improvement.
